Have you ever wished you could tell off your boss, forget all the office politics and work from home in your pajamas? It's a dream for many people.

As great as is sounds, being your own boss brings with it, its own set of responsibilities and can be more than you bargained for. If you are seriously thinking about starting your own home business, there's a lot to contemplate.

Here's an idea of some of the pros and cons of branching out on your own.

Pro: Being your own boss means freedom from reporting to someone each day. This can be extremely motivating for people who have to work with micromanaging bosses. In those situations, each day is torture and you may develop health problems like ulcers or tension headaches as a result.

Con: There's no one holding you accountable. This might be the hardest part of running your own business. You have to be completely self-motivated, since everything is riding on what you produce. There's no one to tell you when or how to do a project. You have to be able to trust your own instincts and experience.

Pro: Get paid for what your worth. By working for yourself you determine what you earn. Your salary is contingent on how much work you do and the quality of it. It's up to you to find clients and projects to work on. You receive all profits from a completed job.

Con: The pay is not guaranteed. Working for yourself is a huge gamble. There's never any guarantee that the work flow will be constant or that you will be good at soliciting work even if you are good at performing the actual job.

Working for yourself definitely has its appeal and many people are doing it. It takes courage to branch out on your own but it can be worth the effort.
