An excellent way to motivate your employees is to provide employee awards for a job well done! When is a good time to give these awards? Why do you want to recognize your employee?
When you have given the employee a tangible goal and he/she works to achieve that goal then it is your responsibility to recognize the achievement. Some accomplishment may be small and others may be very grand. Whichever it may be you should demonstrate that it was recognized.
When your employee is motivated he works hard and smart. This is a very profitable combination for you and your business. It is also very positive in that other employees have an example that working hard and smart is a positive act and will lead to being recognized.
However, awards are not only to boost morale but also to maintain it. If you are only providing awards when you think the morale is down then this is self-defeating because over the long run employees may not feel recognized but used. The appreciation must be meaningful and consistent. Awarding a benefit just to fit your schedule is negative feedback. This is a reason why employee of the month awards are a positive award. They are consistent and can keep the staff as a whole motivated to reach a monthly goal to be eligible for this award.
Sometimes it may only be a thank you in your handwriting left on their desk. This perhaps will motivate him that day to achieve some fantastic results. You could also ask the employee to your office and verbally thank them for their efforts on behalf of the company and yourself. You may want to show a deserving employee recognition by assigning them to a very important task.
A team may have completed a task at a certain target date in an ongoing project. As a thank you at morning coffee you could have some boxes of donuts by the coffee machine or leave chocolates in their area. The team could be invited to an extended lunch picnicking on the grounds near the office. Showing your appreciation by awarding them with a half a day off is also very positive feedback. These forms of recognition are not expensive and the return in company profits will be noticeable.
If your team has successfully accomplished projects it might be time to recognize them by having upper level management present when the team is complimented for their effort and if a specific individual out performed their past achievements then this also is a perfect time to mention it. An actual plaque could be given for the team to post in their area. Being noticed by upper level management creates cohesiveness among the team and they are ready to put every effort into the next assignment. Now upper level management is watching and they are proud that they are watching.
When you award plaques to your employees you are giving them a concrete display of how they are appreciated as a staff member. They are an important part of the company. In realizing this you may find that other staff are motivated to strive for the same reward. When our work is recognized and we feel appreciated we have a positive attitude and are encouraged to continue.
