Western food is not just hamburgers and fries. They are a big part of it, true, but Western food comprises of much more than that. The menu doesn't just include fast food items that we consider are from the United States. Western food also includes fares from Europe or from the non-indigenous region of North America, Latin America, Oceania, and Australia.

Western food can also be Australian fare. This is because the cuisine Down Under was formed by the individuals who inhabited country, which were composed of the British settlers in the late 18th century. Therefore, Australian dishes began to reflect the influences of Western food along with Asian cultures.

While Australian dishes mostly are considered Western food, there are dishes that remain indigenous yet popular to them. There is the unmistakably Australian breakfast food Vegemite, fish and chips, the ANZAC biscuits and the pavlova cake, which are considered Australian national foods but also have origins in New Zealand.

Western food in Australia includes assortments of dishes that can be seen in other lands, such as baked lamb shank, grilled rib-eye, burgers, fried chicken, grilled salmon, baked rice, grilled fish, grilled chicken, and pizza and pasta.

The differences between Western and Asian food are plain. While in Asian cooking, meat is only part of the meal, it is extravagantly used in Western menu. Steaks are perhaps the best example. They are the main star of a Western food menu, while in Asian they are served in the same or lesser proportions than the other ingredients.

Rice is a big part of an Asian meal. A meal is considered full if it has rice, or if it's not available, then if it has noodles. In Western food, it is just a side dish. It is categorized alongside steamed vegetables, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob.

In both Asian and Western cuisine, condiments are a must. Gravy, soy sauce, mustard, vinegar, and catsup are all part of the table setting during meals.

Of all the differences between the two, the most easily noticeable is probably the portion size. In Western dishes, the meals are normally and substantially more abundant than in the conventional Asian cooking.

These variations and much more are notable when eating in a place where diversity is evident like Australia.
