One of the certainties of our being is death. Each one of use has to confront it and is yet not ready for it. Remembering the dead is an age old practice that has been constantly changing to fit into the present times. A traditional funeral service was held in church, with specific hymns, poems and a eulogy for the deceased. But, as more people people are willing to go with personalized services, the practice has witnessed a change over the last few decades.

Organising a funeral service, immediately after the death of a loved one can be quite a disturbing and painful experience. The fundamental misconceptions regarding funeral services include that this is a legal requirement, which it most certainly isn't.

Secondly, a lot of people hold the belief that a service has to be organized in a church, which is also a misconception. It is crucial to realize that conventionally, such services were held in church but these days, with importance being attached to a personal touch, funeral services are being increasingly held in homes.

Thirdly, such services do not need the presence of either the pastor or the casket and can be conveniently held without either.

But, for any such personal funeral service, you need to keep the deceased person in mind while making the arrangements. Music, should be such that it is soft, soothing and from the personal favourites of the deceased. You can either hire a live music band or choose to go with music records.

There is also a growing trend of exhibiting the personal items of the departed to show his or her true nature to the entire world. Address is extremely important in all funeral services including the personal ones. It could be a recital, a song or a personal speech that reflects upon the dead person.

Finally, it is preferable to give the guests assembled at the service some type of a memento that will make them remember the departed forever.
