The first day of the NCAA Basketball Tournament costs United States businesses $1.8 billion due to lost productivity. Employees often waste time and money by watching such sporting events, shopping, or reading web pages. Businesses need to stay ahead of this curve and keep on track, and one way of doing this is to use pc monitoring software for employees.

Legality often is the first question that many companies have when considering the use of this software. It is important to note that business computers are not the property of the employee, so there is no expectation of privacy. United States law, whether federal or state, contains no law that would keep a business from using monitoring to keep workers on task.

One important feature of any good monitoring package is keystroke logging. All keys pressed by the employee will be recorded. Then, the program will create a log that is easily accessible by the owner or manager. Keystroke logging provides a good way of finding out exactly what is happening when someone may not be able to physically supervise.

A manager or owner will also want to know what web sites have been visited. Most monitoring applications include a record of all web activity, including not only the addresses visited but also the amount of time that was spent at each site.

Other important features might include instant messaging and email logging, and some packages include recording of file downloads. This is especially important because file downloads are threatening to a business for more reasons than just productivity, as downloads can include viruses or can be copyright violations.

All of this can be done with good PC monitoring software for employees. A manager cannot be at all places at all times, but this software means that there is no reason why any computer should be unsupervised at any time. Using it will ensure any business that their property is actually used for business.
