A very popular and extremely effective method of showing how much you appreciate your client is to present him with a corporate gift. Occasional gifts that convey the company's heart felt gratitude towards clients can help a lot in fostering a strong and permanent relationship with them. Given how essential they are, you should keep some points in mind while picking the gifts.

The first factor to be remembered is what the objective of the gift is - is it meant to thank the client for some important project, or is it marking the completion of an important project, or does it serve any other important purpose. For example, promotional gifts which have a clear marketing angle must be presented if your objective is to draw a potential client to your company. For this aim, mugs, pens, writing pads etc with the company's logo can form a lasting impression on the customer.

On the other hand, if a customer has been availing the services of the company for some time, then a different strategy should be taken. These clients need more attention to detail, which implies that their likes and dislikes have to be taken into account when choosing a gift. Another option is to give a plaque, which is seen as a gesture of gratitude throughout the world.

It is very essential that the same gift is not presented more than once to a customer. This is because a gift completely loses its worth if it is repeated. So if you have already distributed calendars, next time go for pen stands or picture frames and so on. But always ensure that the gift needs to be both useful and classy.

A substandard gift can harm the reputation of the organization, so never compromise in this respect. At the same time, you should keep an eye on your budget. While it is good to be generous, you must never overspend. This creates high expectations and may hamper future relations with the customer.
