Some people have instinctive skills for leading others. They seem to be born with an ability to lead. Other people tend to listen and follow them naturally. Most people can learn some aspects of leadership. Other aspects are instinctive and cannot be learned.

Born leaders have certain traits. You can even see it among children. One or two will stand out as leaders of a group. They have not learned any skills of leadership at that stage. It is a natural talent they possess. Have you noticed that you possess any of these traits? If so, perhaps you were born to lead.

Leaders are able to gain support and respect of others. People listen and are willing to follow them. They appear to be drawn to that leader. Most people will respect good managers, but they don't feel drawn or motivated to follow their lead. Some managers may have this natural leadership ability. This is a trait they possess, while others do not.

One important reason why leaders are able to inspire others is that they possess an authentic passion for what they do. They are enthusiastic and hopeful about their work or projects. They remain committed and give all they've got. This kind of exuberance is contagious. Just being around someone like that is enough to inspire passion in others.

Even when things don't go smoothly, the leader doesn't give up. She shows persistence and focus. She is able to focus on the goal and shows determination. The leader will help others stay on track until the project is successful. She is not side tracked by unimportant details, but is able to keep the focus on the goals and steps needed to achieve the goals.

Natural leaders willingly take on responsibility. He doesn't view added responsibility as a burden, but welcomes it as opportunity. Some people don't want to occasionally take work or responsibility home with them at the end of the day. They prefer leaving their work at the office after office hours. Leaders don't embrace that mindset. Instead, they like the feeling of preparation, achievement and success that comes with responsibility.

An effective leader has a clear sense of values. She has definite standards of behavior and always lives by these standards. This affects the leader's reputation in a positive way. People will respect her more for living by her values. In addition, she has the courage to follow these convictions. She will stand up and fight when these values are challenged. This makes others want to follow the leader's example.

A leader exhibits high self-confidence. This measure of confidence makes it easy for him to form decisions and lead others. He is convinced that he can succeed and reach the desired goals. This kind of belief is contagious and inspires confidence in others. This sense of high self confidence comes natural to some, and can be learned and improved upon by others. You, too, can become a leader by using these traits as stepping stones toward honing your confident leadership skills.
